A practical retailer-fit rubric

Turn taste and instinct into a reviewable set of wholesale-fit signals.

A useful fit score does not replace judgment. It makes the reasons behind a judgment easier to inspect, compare, and improve.

01

Start with the assortment

Look for evidence that the retailer already sells adjacent products at a compatible level of design, price, and presentation.

  • Relevant categories are currently stocked
  • The assortment supports the brand's positioning
  • The store is active and operating
02

Score the relationship opportunity

Fit is broader than product adjacency. Geography, retailer type, customer overlap, timing, and contact confidence all shape whether a candidate deserves attention.

03

Keep hard exclusions separate

A high score should never override an existing customer, suppression, duplicate, incompatible retailer, or missing source. Exclusions are gates, not deductions.

Put the standard into practice.
